ABOUT
What is Body-Led Breastfeeding?
Body-Led Breastfeeding resolves complex breastfeeding difficulties by isolating and improving the work of the tongue while reducing the compensatory work of the body.

Body-Led Breastfeeding
Follows Four Simple Rules
-
Read the suck
-
Isolate the tongue
-
Read the body
-
Regulate the body
Body-Led Breastfeeding Is:
A Framework
Body-Led Breastfeeding is both a framework for assessment and a set of specific tools. It is designed to help clinicians resolve complex breastfeeding challenges by understanding the forces behind suck dysfunction. In BLB, the solution always lies in simultaneously isolating the work of the tongue while downregulating the work of the infant body on and off the breast.
Additional Skills
Body-Led Breastfeeding is meant to build on the skills lactation consultants already use; it provides an approach that will enhance both what the clinician sees and assesses during a breastfeeding session, as well as provides enhanced tools for addressing the difficulties uncovered during assessment.
Teaching & Respect
Body-Led Breastfeeding assumes the intelligent engagement of the infant and guides mothers and lactating parents in how to help teach their babies to nurse more effectively.
Curiosity & Integration
In Body-Led Breastfeeding we examine traditional approaches to lactation support and the assumptions inherent in their use. We ask hard questions, then use principles from fluid movement, physics, body mechanics, instinctual movements, human habit formation, and craniosacral therapy to expand our approach to addressing lactation challenges.
